Nextdoor is where you connect to the neighborhoods that matter to you so you can belong. Neighbors around the world turn to Nextdoor daily to receive trusted information, give and get help, get things done, and build real-world connections with those nearby — neighbors, businesses, and public services.

We believe that by bringing neighbors together, we can cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on.

Building connections in the real world is a universal human need. That truth, and the reality that neighborhoods are one of the most important and useful communities in our lives, have been a guiding principle for Nextdoor since the beginning.

Nextdoor is currently available in:

 While we don’t have a timeline for launching in other countries just yet, we do hope to bring Nextdoor to neighborhoods around the world in the future.

Nextdoor neighborhoods can have anywhere from 100-3000 households, although we have found that Nextdoor works best in neighborhoods with between 750-1000 households.

If a neighborhood is too small, it can be difficult to achieve the critical mass of active posters necessary for a Nextdoor website to thrive, while neighborhoods with too many households can become too active and drive some folks away.

For members who prefer to share with a wider audience, the Nearby Neighborhoods feature gives members the ability to selectively share messages with surrounding Nextdoor neighborhoods as well as see posts from those nearby neighbors.

Since every neighborhood is unique, you and your neighbors may choose to create a website with slightly more or slightly fewer households than the norm. If you need assistance creating a neighborhood that falls outside of our recommended size, contact us and we’ll be happy to explore what options may be available.

Nextdoor is an ad-supported platform, which means that advertisers help keep Nextdoor free for neighbors like you. Ads help us support businesses while also keeping Nextdoor free to use. 

 

1. Who can advertise?
From the smallest local business to the largest national brand, any company that abides by our Ad Policy is welcome to use ads. Advertisers of all sizes can provide information about their services. 

You may see ads in the main newsfeed, digest emails, in-app digest, and in the For Sale and Free section. These ads are clearly marked as “Sponsored.” You can explore each ad type in more detail on Nextdoor’s business site.

2. Why do I see the same ad or advertiser repeatedly?
Seeing the same ad multiple times is not uncommon and is a natural part of the ad serving process. Some advertisers hope to reach neighbors more often than others. Ad frequency does not violate our Ad Policy, so there is no need to report an ad that has been shown multiple times. 

3. Why do I see ads that don’t seem relevant to me?
Nextdoor focuses on hyper-local content and many advertisers are interested in reaching people in a specific residential location. You can think of it like a billboard in your neighborhood. Some ads are designed to reach large groups of people and some are designed to reach a much smaller, individualized group. 4. How can I report an ad that I believe is in violation of Nextdoor’s Ad Policy?
If you see an ad that you think violates Nextdoor’s Ad Policy, please take a screenshot of the ad and contact us. We take these reports very seriously and will respond to your concern as soon as possible.

Ads that are irrelevant or repetitious do not violate Nextdoor’s Ad Policy and should not be reported.


5. How can my business advertise on Nextdoor?
Nextdoor welcomes all businesses that share our values of kindness and community empowerment. There are many opportunities to advertise on our platform. You can find a list of business advertising options here. We look forward to working with you.

The 2022 Neighborhood Favorite winners have been announced! Check out the Businesses section to see the winning businesses in your neighborhood. 2022 winners will display a trophy icon next to their business name, at the top of the business’s Nextdoor page. Winning businesses will also receive a congratulations email.

Here’s how Neighborhood Favorites show up: 

    1. Neighborhood Favorites list: A list of Neighborhood Favorites winners can be found here. This list is specific to your neighborhood, and based on recommendations from neighbors. 
    2. Business Pages: Winning businesses will have a trophy icon next to their business name, on their Nextdoor Business Page.

 

No Neighborhood Favorites List?If you don’t see a Neighborhood Favorites list within the Businesses section, it means we did not receive enough recommendation participation from your neighborhood to award winners this year.

 

FAQ (For businesses)


How will I know if my business won? 
If your business was voted a 2022 Neighborhood Favorite, you’ll receive an email from Nextdoor. Your business page will display a trophy icon next to your business name, and you will be included in the list of Neighborhood favorites for your neighborhood.     

 
Important! If you haven’t claimed your Business Page yet, we may not have the correct address or email to let you know if you’ve won. Make sure to claim your free Business Page so you don’t miss out.

If you’ve already claimed your Business Page, make sure your address and email information are up to date in your Business Profile.
 

How are Neighborhood Favorites calculated?
For 2022, recommendations, page likes/connections received from July 2021 through July 2022, are counted towards 2022 Neighborhood Favorites Awards. 


Note This means that Neighborhood Favorite winners won’t necessarily be the businesses with the most overall recommendations. Instead, the winners will be the businesses with the most recommendations and page likes/connections over the past year.


What if my business category is not one of the categories included in the survey?
The categories for this survey have been preselected based on the most commonly recommended and searched business types on Nextdoor.

Can I view which neighbors recommended my business?
On your Nextdoor Business Page, you can see all recommendations that neighbors have chosen to provide for your business.

If I purchased advertising products through Nextdoor, does that impact whether I am a Neighborhood Favorite?
No. Purchasing a paid advertising product on Nextdoor has no impact on Neighborhood Favorites voting or winners. Whether you’ve purchased a paid advertising product for your business or not,  your business has the same chance of winning as any other business.

I was a winner in past years. Will my business page still display a trophy icon?
Trophy icons on business pages are only marked for this year’s winners.

How can I promote that I am a winner to my customers?
Digital stickers and other promotional materials can be accessed via the digital media kit. We recommend using the materials when announcing you’ve won on various platforms. You may also print out the digital sticker and display in your store.

1. What is the Nextdoor Experts program

In summer 2015, Nextdoor launched an additional support channel: Nextdoor Experts.

Nextdoor Experts assist Nextdoor’s primary support team by answering support questions from people across the country about how to use Nextdoor. By allowing the members of the Nextdoor community to support other members, we can provide better, quicker support to our growing membership.

We are partnering with Directly, an on-demand customer service app provider, to route Nextdoor member questions to our community of Experts.
 
2. Who are the Experts?

Experts are Nextdoor members selected from the Nextdoor community based on their contributions to their Nextdoor neighborhoods and/or the National Leads Forum.
 
3. Who do Experts help?

Experts assist both members and potential members from across the country. 

4. What is the time commitment?

Experts may spend as much or as little time as they wish answering member questions via Directly.

There are no schedules or “on-call” hours. As an Expert, you may choose to spend a couple hours per day one week answering questions and then go on vacation next week and not answer any questions at all. It is completely up to you.

Because providing quality answers and quick, neighborly service to our members is a top priority, we’ll use smart routing to send more questions to Experts earning positive marks for the speed and the accuracy of their answers, and we’ll reduce the number of questions sent to Experts with limited engagement on the platform.

5. What kind of rewards are being offered

Experts are paid for answering incoming questions. The amount of the reward will depend on the type of question and Directly’s formula for allocating rewards. Experts earn $1-2 per successfully answered question, as well as money for other activities like “up-voting” a correct answer or correctly rerouting a question back to Nextdoor’s in-house support team for members that need additional help.

6. What kinds of questions would I be answering?

Experts are focused on helping members make the best use of Nextdoor. Questions should not require any specialized access or knowledge of the member’s neighborhood. Questions will be primarily how-to’s, but may also include policy questions and feature requests like:
    • How do I change my email settings?
    • How do I update my profile photo?
    • How do I protect my privacy?
    • How do I join at my summer home?
    • How do I update my account to my new address?

7. What if I can’t answer the question?

Experts should only take on answering questions they feel capable of answering. For example, if you’re an Android user, you should leave iPhone questions to Experts who use the Nextdoor for iPhone app.

If you see that a question may not be appropriate for any Expert — for example, a privacy issue or a question that requires information about the specific neighborhood — you can re-route that question back to the Nextdoor Support team at any time.

8. Will the member know that an Expert is answering their question?

Responses to member questions from Experts are clearly indicated as originating from a Nextdoor community member rather than a Nextdoor staff member.

9. What is required to apply?

To apply, you must be a Nextdoor Lead in good standing.

You’ll also be required to take a short skills quiz, which will help us determine if you’re ready to participate in the program and which questions to send your way.

To create an account on the Directly platform, which will allow us to route questions over to you, you’ll need to provide your first name, last name, and email address.

10. What if I try it and find that I’m not interested?

Participation in this program is completely up to you. You can choose to withdraw at any time.

11. Who is Directly?

Directly provides the customer service application that allows Nextdoor to route member questions to our Experts.

You will see the name Directly on some of the web pages and interfaces as you review and answer member questions.

When you contact Nextdoor Support, your case may first be routed to a Nextdoor Expert who can quickly answer your question. 


Experts are Nextdoor members selected from the Nextdoor community – based on their contributions to their Nextdoor neighborhoods –who are assisting the Nextdoor Support team in answering incoming member questions.


If your question cannot be answered by an Expert, that Expert will route your question back to the Nextdoor Support team for resolution.  All responses to member questions from Experts will be clearly indicated as originating from a Nextdoor community member rather than a Nextdoor staff member.


Our goal with this program is to get all support issues resolved as quickly as possible. By allowing the members of the Nextdoor community to support other members, we can provide better, faster support to our growing membership.

Nextdoor allows neighbors to create a private website for their neighborhood. Over 85% of all U.S. neighborhoods use Nextdoor as their trusted communication platform. It’s likely that many neighborhoods in your jurisdiction are using Nextdoor.

On Nextdoor, neighbors in your jurisdiction can:

    • Share local recommendations (plumbers, auto mechanics, babysitters, etc.)
    • Sell or give away household items.
    • Publicize local events.
    • Exchange information about crime and safety issues.
    • Ask for advice.
    • Receive updates from their local public agencies. 


Neighbors can choose to view and respond to updates via email or directly on the website.

 While we don’t have a timeline for launching in other countries just yet, we do hope to bring Nextdoor to neighborhoods around the world in the future.

Nextdoor neighborhoods can have anywhere from 100-3000 households, although we have found that Nextdoor works best in neighborhoods with between 750-1000 households.

If a neighborhood is too small, it can be difficult to achieve the critical mass of active posters necessary for a Nextdoor website to thrive, while neighborhoods with too many households can become too active and drive some folks away.

For members who prefer to share with a wider audience, the Nearby Neighborhoods feature gives members the ability to selectively share messages with surrounding Nextdoor neighborhoods as well as see posts from those nearby neighbors.

Since every neighborhood is unique, you and your neighbors may choose to create a website with slightly more or slightly fewer households than the norm. If you need assistance creating a neighborhood that falls outside of our recommended size, contact us and we’ll be happy to explore what options may be available.

Nextdoor is an ad-supported platform, which means that advertisers help keep Nextdoor free for neighbors like you. Ads help us support businesses while also keeping Nextdoor free to use. 

 

1. Who can advertise?
From the smallest local business to the largest national brand, any company that abides by our Ad Policy is welcome to use ads. Advertisers of all sizes can provide information about their services. 

You may see ads in the main newsfeed, digest emails, in-app digest, and in the For Sale and Free section. These ads are clearly marked as “Sponsored.” You can explore each ad type in more detail on Nextdoor’s business site.

2. Why do I see the same ad or advertiser repeatedly?
Seeing the same ad multiple times is not uncommon and is a natural part of the ad serving process. Some advertisers hope to reach neighbors more often than others. Ad frequency does not violate our Ad Policy, so there is no need to report an ad that has been shown multiple times. 

3. Why do I see ads that don’t seem relevant to me?
Nextdoor focuses on hyper-local content and many advertisers are interested in reaching people in a specific residential location. You can think of it like a billboard in your neighborhood. Some ads are designed to reach large groups of people and some are designed to reach a much smaller, individualized group. 4. How can I report an ad that I believe is in violation of Nextdoor’s Ad Policy?
If you see an ad that you think violates Nextdoor’s Ad Policy, please take a screenshot of the ad and contact us. We take these reports very seriously and will respond to your concern as soon as possible.

The 2022 Neighborhood Favorite winners have been announced! Check out the Businesses section to see the winning businesses in your neighborhood. 2022 winners will display a trophy icon next to their business name, at the top of the business’s Nextdoor page. Winning businesses will also receive a congratulations email.

Here’s how Neighborhood Favorites show up: 

    1. Neighborhood Favorites list: A list of Neighborhood Favorites winners can be found here. This list is specific to your neighborhood, and based on recommendations from neighbors. 
    2. Business Pages: Winning businesses will have a trophy icon next to their business name, on their Nextdoor Business Page.

How will I know if my business won? 
If your business was voted a 2022 Neighborhood Favorite, you’ll receive an email from Nextdoor. Your business page will display a trophy icon next to your business name, and you will be included in the list of Neighborhood favorites for your neighborhood.     

 
Important! If you haven’t claimed your Business Page yet, we may not have the correct address or email to let you know if you’ve won. Make sure to claim your free Business Page so you don’t miss out.

If you’ve already claimed your Business Page, make sure your address and email information are up to date in your Business Profile.
 

How are Neighborhood Favorites calculated?
For 2022, recommendations, page likes/connections received from July 2021 through July 2022, are counted towards 2022 Neighborhood Favorites Awards. 


Note This means that Neighborhood Favorite winners won’t necessarily be the businesses with the most overall recommendations. Instead, the winners will be the businesses with the most recommendations and page likes/connections over the past year.


What if my business category is not one of the categories included in the survey?
The categories for this survey have been preselected based on the most commonly recommended and searched business types on Nextdoor.

Can I view which neighbors recommended my business?
On your Nextdoor Business Page, you can see all recommendations that neighbors have chosen to provide for your business.

If I purchased advertising products through Nextdoor, does that impact whether I am a Neighborhood Favorite?
No. Purchasing a paid advertising product on Nextdoor has no impact on Neighborhood Favorites voting or winners. Whether you’ve purchased a paid advertising product for your business or not,  your business has the same chance of winning as any other business.

I was a winner in past years. Will my business page still display a trophy icon?
Trophy icons on business pages are only marked for this year’s winners.

How can I promote that I am a winner to my customers?
Digital stickers and other promotional materials can be accessed via the digital media kit. We recommend using the materials when announcing you’ve won on various platforms. You may also print out the digital sticker and display in your store.

1. What is the Nextdoor Experts program

In summer 2015, Nextdoor launched an additional support channel: Nextdoor Experts.

Nextdoor Experts assist Nextdoor’s primary support team by answering support questions from people across the country about how to use Nextdoor. By allowing the members of the Nextdoor community to support other members, we can provide better, quicker support to our growing membership.

We are partnering with Directly, an on-demand customer service app provider, to route Nextdoor member questions to our community of Experts.
 
2. Who are the Experts?

Experts are Nextdoor members selected from the Nextdoor community based on their contributions to their Nextdoor neighborhoods and/or the National Leads Forum.
 
3. Who do Experts help?

Experts assist both members and potential members from across the country. 

4. What is the time commitment?

Experts may spend as much or as little time as they wish answering member questions via Directly.

There are no schedules or “on-call” hours. As an Expert, you may choose to spend a couple hours per day one week answering questions and then go on vacation next week and not answer any questions at all. It is completely up to you.

Because providing quality answers and quick, neighborly service to our members is a top priority, we’ll use smart routing to send more questions to Experts earning positive marks for the speed and the accuracy of their answers, and we’ll reduce the number of questions sent to Experts with limited engagement on the platform.

5. What kind of rewards are being offered

Experts are paid for answering incoming questions. The amount of the reward will depend on the type of question and Directly’s formula for allocating rewards. Experts earn $1-2 per successfully answered question, as well as money for other activities like “up-voting” a correct answer or correctly rerouting a question back to Nextdoor’s in-house support team for members that need additional help.

6. What kinds of questions would I be answering?

Experts are focused on helping members make the best use of Nextdoor. Questions should not require any specialized access or knowledge of the member’s neighborhood. Questions will be primarily how-to’s, but may also include policy questions and feature requests like:
    • How do I change my email settings?
    • How do I update my profile photo?
    • How do I protect my privacy?
    • How do I join at my summer home?
    • How do I update my account to my new address?

7. What if I can’t answer the question?

Experts should only take on answering questions they feel capable of answering. For example, if you’re an Android user, you should leave iPhone questions to Experts who use the Nextdoor for iPhone app.

If you see that a question may not be appropriate for any Expert — for example, a privacy issue or a question that requires information about the specific neighborhood — you can re-route that question back to the Nextdoor Support team at any time.

8. Will the member know that an Expert is answering their question?

Responses to member questions from Experts are clearly indicated as originating from a Nextdoor community member rather than a Nextdoor staff member.

9. What is required to apply?

To apply, you must be a Nextdoor Lead in good standing.

You’ll also be required to take a short skills quiz, which will help us determine if you’re ready to participate in the program and which questions to send your way.

To create an account on the Directly platform, which will allow us to route questions over to you, you’ll need to provide your first name, last name, and email address.

10. What if I try it and find that I’m not interested?

Participation in this program is completely up to you. You can choose to withdraw at any time.

11. Who is Directly?

Directly provides the customer service application that allows Nextdoor to route member questions to our Experts.

You will see the name Directly on some of the web pages and interfaces as you review and answer member questions.
